Care of crossbow centre servings
Posted on
With crossbow strings it is important that the centre serving is well looked after as with the majority of strings this will be the part that wears out the quickest.
with good string care it is possible to extend the life of centre servings and reduce the friction on the crossbow rail giving a more consistent shot.
several things that can be done for this are
1. after use ensure that a fresh coat of wax is applied to the serving itself paraffin wax works well for this the same as in tealight candles then apply a softer wax over this layer to act as a lubricant(bohning seal-tite/tex-tite) works very well for this purpose.
2. Ensure that the crossbow rail is free from debris and/or damage as this could possibly catch the string and speed up the wearing process
3.Be aware that when a centre serving becomes damaged it is repairable for £2 so do not continue to use the string as this will damage the string material underneath.
